GSC Baseball Opens GCAA Play With Sweep Of ABAC

TIFTON, Ga. – Gordon State Baseball ran its win streak to four games as the Highlanders took two from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) with a 13-2, 6-5 doubleheader sweep here Saturday to begin Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) play.

With the pair of wins, GSC improved to 11-8 overall and 2-0 in the GCAA.

The Highlanders also won for the ninth time in their past 11 games.

The GSC bats were alive in the opener as the Highlanders exploded for a seven-run fifth inning and added three more in the eighth to take the 11-run victory.

Blaze O'Saben (Warrenton, Va. / Fauquier HS) continued his good work at the plate by going 3-for-5 – including a triple – with five RBI, a walk and a run scored.

Derek Wyle (Warner Robins, Ga. / Veterans HS) also had three hits and five RBI, including a home run.

Cole Phillips (Trion, Ga. / Trion HS) had a double and added three RBI, walked once and scored twice.

Davis Swenson (Toccoa, Ga. / Stephens Co. HS) went seven innings on the mound and allowed two earned runs on five hits while striking out six and didn't walk a batter.

GSC and ABAC (5-12, 0-2) were deadlocked at 5-5 going to the top of the seventh in the nightcap, but GSC pushed across a run and then held on for the one-run triumph to complete the sweep.

Phillips homered twice and went 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs while O'Saben added a round-tripper for GSC.

Brody Parkerson (Villa Rica, Ga. / Bremen HS) added two hits and had an RBI for the Highlanders.  

Ramsey David (Dacula, Ga. / Buford HS) collected the win on the mound by going 2.2 innings while allowing a lone hit, striking out four and walking one.
