ABAC Fillies worked hard at the NJCAA National Championships Tournament in Tucson, AZ. Five of Coach White's six singles players advanced to that level before being eliminated and all three of his three doubles teams.
No. 1 singles, Nicole Dufour, advanced to the quarterfinals. Result score: 7-5, 6-1. Dufour won her first match in straight sets, but had to come back from a first set loss in the second round to advance.
Jou Chen Chen and Yazmin Barrios followed as Chen won her first two matches in straight sets. Result score: 6-2, 6-3 in the elite eight. Barrios won in the quarters 6-2, 6-3.
Ellie Black won straight sets at No. 4 singles in her first round match. She won in the second round, 6-1, 6-2. Quarterfinal results: 6-1, 6-3. No. 5 singles, Tiffany-Anne Beukes had a first round bye and a 6-0, 6-3 win in the earlier rounds.
Lilla Jerry won her first match, 6-0, 6-2.
Dufour and Chen battled to a third set in the quarterfinals. The ABAC pair won the opening set, 6-2 before falling 7-5, 6-3. The two had a first round bye before two easy 6-1 sets in the second round.
Beukes and Barrios nearly equalled Dufour and Chen: a first round bye and 6-1, 6-1 set wins in the second round.
Black and Patricia Principal Pineda won 6-0, 6-0 in the opening round, then 6-2, 6-1.
