
PLANO, Texas – Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College’s Stallions were in ninth place after the third day of the NJCAA Men’s National Tennis Tournament.
ABAC has 20 points, two behind seventh-place Iowa Central. Cowley, the host school, leads the event with 36 points while Tyler (Tex.) is one point behind in second place and Eastern Florida State has 34 points for third place.
Wednesday was a rough day for the Stallions as they lost four of their six matches and remain alive in only two flights. In singles, sixth-seeded Petar Wemmenhove continues to battle through the consolation bracket in Flight 2 as he defeated Illinois Valley State’s Zvikomborero Bingura in a walkover. Wemmenhove faces Joan Mateu Ramis Pascual from Itawamba Community College in Thursday’s consolation semifinal.
Wemmenhove will also team with Antoine Schaub in the Flight 1 doubles consolation semifinal to face Davis Rowton & Emmanuel Wettey from Lewis & Clark Community College.
ABAC’s top seed Antonin Leborne could not keep his winning streak going as he fell to Weatherford’s Bruno Britez 6-3, 7-5 in Flight 1. In Flight 4 singles, Schaub lost to top-seeded Tomas Quesada Perez from Eastern Florida State 6-1, 6-3. Also falling in their singles quarterfinal was Benjamin Ranby-Al in Flight 6 as he lost to second-seeded Alejandro Gonzalez from Cowley, 6-3, 6-4.
In ABAC’s other doubles match Wednesday, the team of Leborne & Zachary Riley lost to Eastern Florida State’s Nick Devivo & Colin Tavares 6-1, 6-4.
Semifinal matches are scheduled for Thursday with finals set for Friday.
