Eagles split home doubleheader against ABAC

TALLAHASSEE, FL (February 15, 2022) - There was no shortage of offense in either game of Tuesday night's doubleheader between Tallahassee and the visiting Abraham Baldwin Agricultural Fillies, with the Eagles winning game 1 by a score of 10-9, and ABAC taking the second 10-8.

Tallahassee tallied their first four home runs of the season in game 1, coming off the bats of Brittany Michael, Raven Little, Sheshe Ortiz, and Kailynn James. Every one of those home runs was needed to propel a comeback victory for Tallahassee, as ABAC led the game 8-2 lead in the third inning.

"Our pitchers aren't throwing well right now, so we have to be able to score some runs," said Head Coach Patti Townsend, "they just stayed in there, they have confidence at the plate right now."

Tallahassee tied the game in the fifth inning when Brittany Michael (Fr., RHP) doubled home Aneyshka Aponte (Fr., OF). The game remained tied through seven, forcing extra innings.

Brooke Michael (Fr., C) drove in the winning run in the eighth with a long single that caromed off the center field wall, giving enough time for Raven Little (Fr., INF) to score.

Sydney Ray (Fr., LHP) entered the game in the fifth inning with Tallahassee down 8-7, and pitched four innings in relief, allowing just one unearned run in the eighth inning. Ray earned her second win of the season.

In game 2, the back-and-forth action continued. ABAC scored first in their first trip to the plate and added another pair with a two-run home run in the second. Tallahassee responded with three of their own, tying the game on a two-run single from Elle Campbell (Fr., C).

Tallahassee took an 8-7 lead into the top of the seventh, but after recording the first two outs of the inning, the Fillies hit an RBI single followed by a two-run double to take a 10-8 lead. The Eagles were retired in order in the bottom of the seventh, ending the game.

Tallahassee moves to 3-1 on the season and travels to Longwood, FL this weekend to take part in the Courtney Miller Invitational, where they'll play four games, starting with Miami Dade College and the College of Central Florida on Saturday, February 19th.
